For some reason, I expected the counter on my message board to act absurd this morning and show negative time, but the clever little javascript snippet knew better and stopped at all zeroes.
I guess today it’s official — I’m published in book form, even though the book has been out everywhere for over a week. I got an e-mail from a journalist in California yesterday who is working on an article about companion books and wants to interview me today about The Road to the Dark Tower. I also saw the USA Today article and sidebar picked up on the wire in a Colorado newspaper, all good advertising. Tomorrow, I’ll be sitting down to do a live interview with a reporter for the regional supplement to the Houston Chronicle.
It’s all very surreal.
Bev,
I’ve been biding my time here in Arizona, privately counting down the days with you. I don’t know you that well, and I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I am so damn proud of you. I think this is an amazing accomplishment. You’re a great guy and, by all reports, the book will stand long into a literary future as a Tour de Force capstone to an already well-chronicled literary icon. As an American Lit Fellow, I understand the intelligence, wisdom and invention that went into this book; and am a bit in awe. Great for you, man. I wish you everything.
Weston:
Gosh! That’s the best e-mail I think I’ve ever gotten about this project. Thanks so much for your beyond-kind words.
