World Fantasy, HorrorFind

This coming weekend, I’ll be attending two events that are running concurrently in the same area. The first is the World Fantasy Convention in Tempe, Arizona. I’ll be taking part in the mass autograph event on Friday night and I am moderating a panel on Saturday morning at 10:00 called Writing a Series and Keeping the Enthusiasm Alive, with Alan Dean Foster and Janny Wurts.

On Saturday afternoon at 1:00 I’ll be reading, talking and signing at HorrorFind Phoenix. Most of the rest of the weekend I’ll be WFC. World Fantasy is a different group from the people I normally see at NECON or World Horror, with only a small intersection. Looking forward to broadening my horizons a little.

How about those Red Sox? 2-0! Of course, the Cardinals are undefeated at home in the post-season, so I wouldn’t be surprised if things even up a little in the coming days. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Sox win at home, but that means a 3-2 series for one team or the other at the end of the Busch run, and I’m not sure I want to see that.

I watched the new special edition DVD of Christine this weekend, along with the featurettes. It’s interesting to see the actors and director 20 years on revisiting the experience of filming that movie, which stands up pretty well over time. I hadn’t known before that the self-healing Christine shots were all shot after principle photography wrapped. The original plan was to have everything happen off camera.

I also watched the featurettes and first two DVDs of Kingdom Hospital. This works much better in the DVD format than it did on TV. After the opening credits, each episode lasts less than 40 minutes, so you can figure out how much toilet paper got sold in the remaining time. The first two-hour episode has a commentary track with King, Baxley and others–fun to listen to as always.

Have fun! I wanted to go to World Fantasy this year, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Or the wallet.

Busy man – that is what I call spreading yourself around. May it prove to be a rewarding and enriching experience for you!

I’m just hoping for fun. Rewarding, enriching, those would be great…but fun is what I crave right now!
