Self Addressed Stamped Rejections

Wow — four posts in one week. Must be a record!

I recognize my own SASEs. They have a distinctive look. When I see one among the mail, especially a thin one that looks like it only contains a single sheet of paper, I open it with trepidation, sure it will be another rejection letter to add to the file.

I got one last night. A lonely little thin SASE sitting at the table when I got home from work. I didn’t bother to look at the return address. I figured I’d get all the grim news I needed inside. To my surprise, it was a conditional acceptance for an anthology. Since it’s not a done deal yet, I won’t name the market. The only condition, however, is an agreement over some suggested editorial changes that I haven’t seen yet. I’m usually fairly easy going about these matters, so as long as the editor doesn’t want me to change the main character into a transsexual Yeti from Provo, Utah, everything will likely be okay. The editor told me it would probably be a month or so before he got around to the suggested edits.

Today’s my day over at Storytellers Unplugged. Click the link and drop by to read my article about revisions.

Yeah, getting into the mindset of a transsexual Yeti from Provo can be a real bear!

    But seriously, good for you!

It’s just that I’ve written so many stories about transsexual Yetis from Provo that I’m tired of them!

You’re the Poppy Z. Brite of transsexual Yetis from Provo. And, just like her, you’ll never escape your past.

And when’s your collection of transsexual Yetis from Provo stories coming out again?

Seriously though, congrats on the acceptance!

    Great article on Storytellers!

I too tend to spend awhile on revising…

    I’ll work on it…

    More details! More details!

Anyway, congrats on the conditional acceptance. If only I knew what the anthology is…

    More details!

Well, there’s always that outside chance of the transexual Mormon Yeti, so I don’t want to jinx things by saying the name of the anthology out loud. The story, by the way, is called “False Witness.”
