April Poems Bring May … ?

encourages us to post a few of our favorite poems to commemorate National Poetry Month. Here’s a favorite of mine. 100 Brownie Points to the first person who identifies the author (no Googling!)

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep–while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Ever heard the Alan Parsons version from Tales of Mystery and Imagination? Awesome!

Absolutely — I love the entire album and all of those that came after. I’m a big AP fan. Saw them live several years ago, something I never thought would happen since they didn’t tour in their heydey.

The newest album is an interesting change of pace for them, dabbling in electronica to a certain extent. Still recognizably AP but different at the same time.

Is that A Valid Path? Yes I have that one too. Quite enjoyed it. Sobering to realize his son is on the album as well.

Yes, A Valid Path. One of AP’s collaborators is part of the trance-hallucinogenic group Shpongle, which I’ve grown fond of recently, too.
