Almost to the penny

I sent the sixth draft manuscript of Missing Persons to my agent yesterday, so I celebrated by taking the morning off. I have to get up really early tomorrow morning, so the extra two hours of sleep will probably do me some good. Tomorrow is going to be my “take it easy” day. Get caught up on some reading, take the car in to get it serviced, watch the episode of Big Brother I missed last night. Sunday I may decide to retackle the novel I’ve been ignoring while doing rewrites, or maybe I’ll look at some of the short story submission guidelines that have been stacking up on my desk lately.

I received a gift card to a local restaurant my wife and I really like. It was an honorarium for some web work I’ve been doing for a scientific organization. Since our daughter is leaving to return to university tomorrow morning (hence the early wake-up call), we decided to have a nice meal. Truth be told, I find the restaurant a tad over-priced, but since we had the gift card I didn’t mind. The funny thing was, when the bill arrived it was 21 cents less than the total amount of the gift card. We couldn’t have planned it any better if we’d tried. So we had a really nice meal for the price of the tip. Or for what it would have cost us to have a similar meal at home.
