Gathering moss

My daughter called us at home on Saturday night. She was on the deck at her Halifax apartment listening to the Rolling Stones playing at the Commons a couple of blocks away. We could hear them loud and clear over the telephone. She’s not a big Stones fan, so she didn’t splurge the $100 for a ticket, and got to hear them all the same. And out of the rain, to boot.

I haven’t been getting a lot done in terms of new writing lately. I think this deadline at work is taking most of my creative energy, and I need the weekend to recharge. This Friday, my stress level should drop greatly once the new web site goes live. That won’t spell the end of the work on the project, for sure, but getting as much in place as possible for the launch has been occupying my mind. I did a little work yesterday and this morning, working on a project that will end up as part of a proposal package. Since it isn’t de novo creativity, it’s easier for me to work on at present.

Got caught up on my taped TV shows over the weekend, for the most part. I taped a couple last night that I didn’t watch. I always enjoy The Amazing Race, since I have fun imagining how couples I know would react to being put under the pressure cooker of racing against the clock while trying to perform some weird tasks or dealing with uncooperative taxi drivers or yaks. The producers do a good job of keeping the race in check—right up to the very end, just about anyone remaining could win. No one gets days or thousands of miles ahead of anyone else.

There’s a nice long interview with Stephen King in the current issue of The Paris Review. A meaty, wide-ranging interview, dozens of pages long. One of the better interviews in recent memory.
