Blasphemy
My August Storytellers Unplugged essay is online. It’s called Publishing…and publishing well and discusses my philosophy about publishing book-length works. Canada is coming alive at the Olympics — we’re up to seven, now. Two gold, 1 silver and four bronze. … Continue reading

A matching set
Canada has hurtled from last place in overall medals into 17th, racking up one of each in the last twenty-four hours. A gold in wrestling, a silver in rowing and a bronze in wrestling. I watched Manhunter last night. I’ve … Continue reading

Under pressure
One thing I’ll say about Eureka. The writers know how to take a metaphor and beat it to death. This week’s episode was about “pressure.” Academic pressure, wedding pressure, pressure to make diamonds, job pressure. Still, it’s a cute show. … Continue reading

Playing by the numbers
I liked Burn Notice last night, but then again I’ve rarely been disappointed by the show. Michael’s mother wasn’t around at all, though she’s usually good for a couple of interesting scenes. I like the way they delay identifying a … Continue reading

Brevity
This week’s Eureka was pretty amusing, with the cad of a scientist reverting to snakelike form in the biosphere. I’m wondering about the significance of the last minute or so, when the efficiency expert finds evidence that scientists in Eureka … Continue reading

Calm after the “storm”
Nothing so exciting as a tropical storm today. The local media is making fun of itself (well, poking fun at each other, actually) over the hyped up coverage for what ended up being a rainstorm. Hours and hours of coverage, … Continue reading
