Bad Wolf

Let me tell you this—it isn’t the bloody humidity. It’s the heat. Period.

When I left work yesterday afternoon and turned on my car engine, the outside thermometer read 109°. Now I don’t for a minute believe it was actually 109 outside, but it was pretty durned hot. I’m glad that the heat wave that started wilting us on Sunday at NECON didn’t show up as promised on Friday and Saturday. It was very nice those days, with little breezes if you were in the right location, and standing out in left center field during the ball game was tolerable, which was good since there were a few innings when we were out there a loooooong time.

We might get some rain today to break the heat a little, but it has been stifling the past couple of days. And we still have August yet to come, which is usually our scorcher month.

I received a reprint request for one of my stories yesterday, which was a nice surprise. I won’t say which story or by whom for what market yet until the deal is sealed. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

We watched the final two Eccleston Doctor Who episodes last night. The season went out on a good, strong note. I think my only complaint about the series is how dismissive Rose is of Mitch over and over again. Why he sticks around to help her, I’ll never know, especially after the way they parted the last time they visited.

The writers meted out rough justice on those unwilling to take a stand and fight in the final battle. I guessed the implication of Bad Wolf (at least in these shows) shortly before Rose figured it out, but according to Nick it will have more meaning in the future. I got a kick out of the Anne Droid, and the fact that Anne Robinson lampoons herself by providing the voice. I thought Jack’s show was something along the line of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (ironic since Jack’s as pan-sexual as they come), but I guess it was really a take-off on a BBC show called What Not to Wear.

Now all we have left is the special features disk.
