They sure are! From a period that is called The Older Ironage in sweden (500 bc -500 AD) there was a custum among those with nice graves to have a marker in the middle that would tell if it was a man or a woman lying there. A rounded big stone showed it was a woman and a slightly more erect shaped stone marked a man. These markers, when there, was always accurate. And they had preferences for where to place their graveyards too. I can often, when in a place in sweden i havent been in before, just look and figure out where the graveyard ought to be. I'm almost always right. They arent visible anymore but the location and perhaps a line that appear a little unnatural gives it away. Occupational sickness....
That is fascinating. And super interesting that there are “tells” in geology on where cemeteries should be kurben. Your work takes a lot of patience, but when you find a discovery, i can imagine the elation of the group!

  • I know this is very similar to a recent snap but the sunset was better and I just loved the silhouette that the dogs were making.

  • Thanks Irish, I was almost in the river getting it. In fact the dogs nearly pushed me in when they ran back with the stick, I got saturated anyway when they both shook their water off. 😁

Beautiful day, 10C/50F... don't panic Scott it's not a UFO it's just the sun...

I need more info on the graveyard shot.  Tidbits of history or stories?  That place is packed.  You roll over and you are right on top  of someone.
Not much to say about that cemetery Hedda, it's Bohernabreena Cemetery, it's extremely crowded, graves are back to back with a very small walkway between each row.

There are a couple of huge graveyards in Dublin that are for more interesting.

I love the genealogy search you can do with that one link.  My ancestry is Irish so i’m going to try and track a surname.

Little Nana turned out to be 51% Irish, but she was an orphan so we don't even know if the mother's name on her birth certificate was real. There was no named father. Mum and my aunt spent years trying to track down a relative..any relative, but nothing ever panned out. We were so desperate to solve this for her during her lifetime, it just didn't happen.

If mum and aunt do DNA through one of those places, it can hook you to relatives.  People that are probably related to Nana on that Irish side.

That's about the only thing I trust on those DNA tests now.  When you lose a whole continent, something ain't right.

They haven't done one, I'll look into it. My cousin did one with Nana, it was so exciting. My partner's family come from Ireland, so my kids are probably right up there in Irish numbers.
