Golden Years re-released on DVD
In anticipation of the locally made CBS television show “Under the Dome” based on Stephen King’s 2009 novel, several of his other television series and miniseries are getting a new re-release.
Specific to Wilmington is the re-release by Spelling Entertainment of “Stephen King’s Golden Years” which is also releasing “The Langoliers” and “The Stand.”
Filmed locally in the dawn of the 90’s and airing on CBS in 1991, “Golden Years” is about a seventy year old custodian who is exposed to chemicals that causes him to become younger. When the wrong people learn about his ‘malady,’ the man is forced to live on the run.
“Golden Years” was King’s first original television series, followed years later with “Kingdom Hospital” and mini-series such as “Storm of the Century,” “The Langoliers,” or “The Stand.”
Here’s what Entertainment Weekly had to say back in 1991. King is frequent contributor to EW today.
The show lasted seven episodes and featured Felicity Huffman, Tim Guinee (“Revolution”), Ed Lauter (“Raw Deal”) and Stephen Root (“Office Space”).
Released long ago via defunct company Artisan Entertainment, “Golden Years” comes out June 18.
