Ayana to be adapted as TV drama

edited February 2014 in General news
Universal TV is adapting Stephen King’s short story “Ayana” into a TV drama, Variety has learned.

Set in the world of miracles, “Ayana” features complex and powerful characters who are touched with just a hint of unexplained magic that triggers profound change in their lives.

Chris Sparling is on board to pen the pilot for “Ayana.” Sparling wrote feature film “Buried,” and his latest pic “Sea of Trees” — starring Matthew McConaughey with Gus Van Sant helming — is beginning production.

Jordan Kerner will serve as exec producer on “Ayana,” with Ben Haber producing. Kerner’s feature film credits include both the “Mighty Ducks” and “Smurfs” franchise, along with “Less Than Zero” and 2006′s “Charlotte’s Web.”

NBC is currently considering the project; should the Peacock not nab the adaptation, Universal TV will shop the pilot to other nets.

King recently made a major footprint in the network TV space with “Under the Dome,” a CBS summer drama based on King’s book of the same name. “Under the Dome” is set to air its second season this summer on the Eye.

“Ayana” was first published in 2007 in The Paris Review. Both King and Kerner are repped by Paradigm.
