Opposite Sides

edited November 2015 in Short Stories

Some writing honors are hard to conceptualize.

While we were away, I received an email message about the Museo de la Palabra's IV Edition of the Flash Fiction Competition César Egido Serrano, Museum of Words. Turns out I was one of 250 finalists. That doesn't sound like so much to get excited about, but there were over 35,000 submissions from nearly 150 countries, and the finalists were selected by 20 creative writing professors from around the world. Seriously, check out the list of where they came from!

I was one of only 18 finalists from the US. The winner, an American, received $20,000 and three runners-up got $2000 (for writings in Hebrew, Spanish and an Arabic language).

I'm absurdly pleased by this nebulous but thrilling achievement.
