Do people in the states, at least before the musical, know who he was? I mean people talk about Washington, Jefferson, Adams and Franklin a lot but my impression is that less is heard about Hamilton. After all, he belonged to the core gang. Or am i totally wrong??

....from what little I can recall out of the mists of memory-we studied Hamilton but not as much as the others you mentioned....mostly the duel is what sticks in our minds....

I read a biography on alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. 

I don’t remember much. There were guns and …and uh guns…and uh, they dueled. A guy died. 

Then a king sang about sending battalions to remind us of his love and there was probably a sex scene. 

I forget.
