Warner Bros. has picked up the right to the thriller novel HEART SHAPED BOX by Joe Hill -- Stephen King's son.

The novel, which will be published next year, centers on a singer obsessed with the occult who buys a ghost on eBay in the form of a man's burial suit. He's ultimately forced to confront both the ghost and the demons of his own past.

Akiva Goldsman will produce. No screenwriter has been set yet.

Comments

  • Sounds like it could be good.
  • "The book is about a man who buys a ghost on the Internet and what happens to him after UPS delivers it," he said. "The hero is a burned-out, morally exhausted rock star with the unlikely stage name of Judas Coyne, and he's spent a lifetime running from metaphorical ghosts: the ghost of who he used to be, the ghosts of his dead bandmates, the ghost of a wronged lover who killed her self. So there are a lot of restless spirits circling around Jude, ... which he has to try and lay to rest."

The limited edition will come from Subterranean Press to coincide with the trade edition next year. Details to follow.
  • Now, will SP pick the artist? I am dying ot know who it will be :-?
  • Have you read this one yet Bev?
  • No, I haven't, and am looking forward to it as eagerly as many other people are.
  • Bev.

    Need confirmation here.

Is this Joe Hill the same Joe Hill who won two Stoker Awards for the Long Fiction Category with 'Best New Horror' (excellent story btw) and the Fiction Collection Category with '20th Century Ghost' (excellent collection well deserving of the award!) ??

If so, looks like the man's talent rubbed off extremely well on his son, and then some  ;D

  • Yes, the Joe Hill whose short story collection and one story from it won a Bram Stoker Award is the same Joe Hill who has a novel named Heart Shaped Box (also the title of a Nirvana song) coming out next year.
