I wish they could do justice to his work. Sadly they don't.
    I will check it out

  • You might really like it. I did appreciate the creative nature of it, it just didn’t grab me up in the story. It was ideas to me that attempted a story.

I’m not explaining that very well.

  • The Shrouds — criterion

David Cronenberg continuing with an interesting body horror idea.

My viewing these days is focusing on ideas I guess.

Cronenberg is most often interesting if not always good. Personally i like his movies but i can understand that for some he is an aquired taste. Havent seen Shrouds, will check it out.

  • My wife and I both loved Life of Chuck. It’s a movie we talked about for days after.

It’s an interesting idea. The concept is being able to watch your loved one decompose in the grave in real time.   Apparently Cronenberg wrote this after the death of his wife, inspired at her funeral. While I find this troubling and macabre, it was fascinating too.

The movie is a bit disjointed, but that’s how he does his movies. Sort of keeping his audience a bit baffled and very unsettled.

Personally, I would not want to be watched in my last intimate “act.”  So voyeuristic and invasive. Gives me the creeps.

Everyone did a great job in their roles. I love a good narration movie too.

I really can’t give words to what it was that just didn’t work for me. I am going to read it for sure.

The new standalone hardcover edition has a clever little flip-page animation in the corners of the pages.

Okay. Here’s what I think about life of chuck now.

I knew this was going to be a difficult watch for me. So, I believe I went into it very closed off. And I’m mad at myself for doing so.

I haven’t read it yet, and will, but when I made my last post, I had already started watching it again. Something I wouldn’t normally do. But I have it rented for 48 hours, so I went back in.

This time I cried.  My favorite part is Act 3, the opening. And while I honestly think everyone did a brilliant job, a stand-out moment for me is Gus.  His conversation with Marty. Matthew Lillard was so good in that very brief moment.

This also gave me a new appreciation for Walt Whitman. In college, we did this whole unit on Walt and I hated the fucker.  Young and arrogant, I couldn’t “hear” him. Now, old and arrogant but more life experience and sponging up as much as I can— I, too, contain multitudes and I am amazing. We all do. We all are. Multitudes: The whole point of this movie.

I do have a question and maybe when I read the story I will understand: Why does the funeral guy tell Marty in Act 3 that he “doesn’t have a clue who Chuck is?”  He “asked 2 dozen people, and no one knows. He’s the Oz of the Apocalypse.”

He does know him from Act 1. Albie saved his funeral business  many times.  He was dealing with a child, alone, to bury Albie. Dealing with a child only would be unforgettable in that line of work. Let alone for a man that saved him. He knows Chuck. What am I missing? I know we are moving in reverse, so I guess that’s it?

Anyway, if you all will allow me the grace of being wrong and
Educating myself — I loved this movie.

  • Watched Jurassic World Rebirth. The new one from this year with Scarlett Johansen and Mahershala Ali in the leads. They are part of a team sent out to get bloodsamples from three species to aid in heart research which would save millions of lives. The seventh in the series and not exactly any new ideas but entertaining enough.

    Anyone remember Kentucky Fried Movie?

I post this because, people are just not aware of how their house smells. They are so used to it, they don’t realize it’s got a “not so fresh” feeling to it.

Sometimes though, they think about the possibility so off to the store they go and load up on Pumpkin Spice or Cinnamon Apple plug-ins which don’t clean or cover-up sweaty ball-sack or cat pee, it just blends with it. Which creates this ungodly aroma.

Get a Hotel Collection diffuser with My Way fragrance and you will have people telling you your house smells so good. I have a very small HC unit that I only turn on occasionally and it is amazing. So many compliments. I am not a seller or investor nor am I banging a seller or investor.

But, I’m just throwing this out because I feel bad when people aren’t aware. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to clean every once in a while and open the windows.

Please don’t send your children to school smelling like mildewed towels and rancid strawberry vape smoke.  Walk them by the diffuser a time or two as it puffs out its fragrance, then send them off.  If they grow a third arm, just pinch it off before it gets a good blood supply going.

    You’re welcome.

  • Watched Civil War by Alex Garland and with Kirsten Dunst in the lead. She is one of the 6 journalists we follow in an american civil war not too far in the future according to this movies what if scenario. made last year but is scarier seen now as i feel its likelier now. Not likely but still a feeling of this could actually happen if every goes to the shits. Ok movie, not uplefting as the last frame of the movie is the last american president lying dead on the floor in the oval office after being dragged out from under his desk where he tried to hide.

  • Watched The Naked Gun.

Frank Drebin Jr. must solve a case to prevent Police Squad from being shut down.

This was ok, not laugh out loud funny but a few chuckles here and there, Neeson is no Nielsen but he does well in the role, Anderson does well too and holds her own.

A drama documentary about the cuban missile crisis based on a book written by a person that was there back in 1962 (heck i wasn't even born then so have just read about it in the history books.. Kevin Costner stars as an advisor to the president. It was OK. not topshelf as a dramathriller but good.

  • Saw Superman. The new movie, supposed to be the start of a new series. Felt a bit overstuffed with both characters and subplots to me. Though the main leads, Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor was ok.
    Hedda GablerGNTLGNTFlakeNoir
  • Saw Jungle with Daniel Radcliffe. Based on a real story where  Yossi Ginsberg, played by Radcliffe, after being separated from some friends must survive and find himself out of the amazonas on his own. Ok but also feel a need from radcliffe to separate himself as much as possible from his Harry Potter persona.
