  • Ate my lunch out today. Ordered a Kebab plate with rice with salat and all the fixings. IT was HUGE! Massive amounts of kebab meat, massive amounts of rice. I managed, just, to eat it all but i felt completely stuffed and still, many hours since i ate, feel like i'm about to burst at the seams. But it was very tasty......  If you ever seen a stranded whale then you have an image of how i felt the rest of the day!

  • .....welp, our area is back in a moderate to severe drought.....so that means no rain to supply the Fall color palette.....the leaves will simply drop like the last notes of Summer's song and it will look like our hills are covered with a dun colored death shroud.....blecch.....

  • I have the prettiest rain today. The sun is shining and light rain is coming down very delicately. Sparkling.
It almost looks like light snowfall.

  • Just an FYI...Stephen King's The Shining(1997) miniseries is now on Tubi in its entirety. I consider this the superior adaptation of his brilliant novel. Why you ask? Because King himself wrote the teleplay and it doesn't shy away from the inner demons of Jack Torrance...alcoholism, child & spousal abuse. The very fuel that powered the Overlook to prey upon him. Check it out...and pay close attention to the filming location.

I'm watching it now. I haven't seen it in a while.
I think the only thing that's going to give me nightmares is that kids mouth.
Damn kid keep that thing closed.

    Ode to a Grill

My old barbecue finally bit the dust a few years ago.  Actually rotted away we had it so long and used it so much.  Didn’t replace it but kept saying I was going to.

So, for about 3 years, I would go and walk the Aisle of Barbecues, lifting lids, gazing into their innards, then leaving, exhausted, pondering at how much effort it was going to take me to purchase one.

Ugh. I’d have to choose it. Charcoal, propane, smoker, grates, griddle?  Compact, no frills; or large and grand that may or may not include a Vegas floor show? Then there’s the decision, will I put this together myself (which I had every confidence I could do so — but, my time! So much time!) or, have them assemble it (money).  Do I pick it up (more time); or do I have them deliver? (More money).

If I chose to assemble it, I would have to wrangle people to help unload the huge, heavy box for me once I got home. Likewise if I picked it up assembled. What unsuspecting muscle could I enlist?

So tired, not even grilled Sea Bass could keep my enthusiasm perky. I would walk out, head heavy, nap time calling like a siren.

And then, a couple days ago, The Gods of “Propane and Propane Accessories”  smiled upon me.

My friends bought a new grill, and asked if I wanted their old one.  Gently used, but in good shape — free, assembled — I just had to pick it up and find the muscle once home to get it in place.

I girded my very worn out loins and said, “I’d love to have it.”

Ten minutes of babbling about this later, I got it to my house, my eyeball-rolling son lugged it into the specified spot after my helicopter guidance, and then I spent 2 days really scrubbing it down. It looks so good, I’m thinking about marrying it.

Cover bought, tank purchased and filled (found out those wire brushes are dangerous AF,  but purchased one anyway) — I will be grilling a steak and veggies tonight.
Then I will lapse into a food coma and dream of England.

  • Christ almighty! I’m sitting here, enjoying a cup of coffee, watching old British TV personality Michael Parkinson interviews on YouTube and I take a big drink.

Something squishy swishes in my mouth and I’m thinking it was a little knot of wadded hair or a dab of gruel not properly cleaned from the mug — which are both horrifying — Fuck me! Fuck me! Fuck me!  It was a fly!!! A fly, touching my teeth and gums and tongue— floating around like a spelunker!

I’m dead. What diseased pile of steaming crap had it been munching on before it flew into my house and took a nose dive in my drink? I am so grossed out.

I scrubbed my mouth, but I fear the plague is upon me.

    Goodbye.

Dear God. And what if it had fetal maggots inside of it?? I would be gargling bleach.

    Very pretty.

I know nothing about it. I no longer pay a lot of attention to books like I used to. I am challenged— I need to unload the books I have and quit purchasing more than I get rid of.

I wish I could afford to send (no offense to my other out of country friends) Kurben, books.

His love for his books is so impressive, I know my books would mean something to him.

My kids will dump my books as fast as they can. I try not to think too hard about it.
