Zebras

Smart SUV, not to be confused with dumb SVUYesterday, I received the electronic proofs for a story that will appear in an anthology later on this year. I only found two little mistakes, one of which I think was inserted by the editors. The other was one of those things that you can read a zillion times and miss: “lead” instead of “led.” I only caught it on my second pass through the proof.

King’s new short story, Morality, in the issue of Esquire that is just now rolling out onto stands, is getting a lot of ink, primarily because a passage from it is inked onto the model who adorns the front cover. Apparently part of the process included a proof reader. How do you get that job?

The season finale of Law & Order: SVU was among the dumbest episodes of any crime show ever. That annoying crime scene “expert” (and that term must be used loosely) would never have survived in any real department, let alone as long as he did on the show. And to be still on the case after he committed a major blunder–unfathomable. And then to turn the way he did–ludicrous. And then for Liv to trick him the way she did–pshaw. I’ve run out of real words. As Elliot said at the wrap of the episode: what a way for things to end. Seriously.

My review of Jonathan Carroll’s The Ghost in Love is now online.
