One week later, and the manuscript of Missing Persons is back with my agent. I often compare the process of writing a book to sending a kid off to university. Until the day it’s printed (graduation), it’s not gone for good. It will be back on a regular basis, bringing with it dirty laundry— the need to make revisions, proof, correct, etc.
This round of revisions was very brief. I wrote two new chapters (total of about 2500 words) and made a few spot modifications. Deleted a few pages, tightened up a couple of events, and corrected anything old that needed to be changed because of the new material. My agent promises a quick turnaround on these changes. Soon, soon, soon I hope it will start going into submission.
I have about 50 pages left to go in Lisey’s Story and I’m dying to finish so I can start reading it again. I probably won’t right away, but I love the way this book is constructed as the main character pulls back the veil of memory to get to the heart of things that took place early in her relationship with her husband.
May go see Mission Impossible tomorrow for a change of pace. I haven’t been to a movie theatre in four months. Time to go see people blow shit up on the big screen.
