Both sides of the desk

I completed an interview for David Niall Wilson’s Deep Blue Journal and sent it off to him yesterday. His approach: five open-ended questions that allow the interviewee to go on at length, which I did. I think I wrote something like four pages. I’ll post a link when David puts the interview up.

Switching from interviewee to interviewer, I worked on a piece that I’m submitting to Pensacola Magazine, a profile/interview of Tabitha King. It won’t appear until next spring, but they’re paying well for a 700-word piece. The reason for the venue is that a significant part of Candles Burning takes place in Pensacola Beach. I pitched them on the idea and they liked it. I think that’s the first time I’ve done a “cold call” of that sort and gotten a positive response. It’s something I might consider doing more of in the future.

My complete interview with Tabby will run in Accent Literary Review which, I’m assured, will return from hiatus in the middle of next week. The interview and review won’t be in the first issue that goes up, but should be in the July issue.

I watched the Black Orchid episode of Doctor Who last night, which is set at an estate in England in the 1930s. The Doctor gets to show off his cricket skills and Tegan and Nyssa both dance the Charleston. The Doctor reveals the inside of the TARDIS to the local constabulary. One officer takes a look in the door, utters a brief oath, and leaves without a second glance—good old British stiff upper lip!

Today’s the first day this week it hasn’t rained, but everything’s still pretty soggy around here. It either rains a lot, or it doesn’t rain at all. The shrubbery is either limp and gasping or bloated and lustrous. No happy medium.
