Rainy days *and* Mondays

Today was the day I planned to go on my research trip, but the weather isn’t cooperating. I might have managed yesterday, as the rain was lighter than anticipated, but today areas are expecting as much as 4″. I don’t mind sight-seeing in the rain, but since I was going to record the terrain for a novel in progress, I thought that a rainy windshield and constantly sweeping wipers probably wouldn’t make for the best research footage. Tomorrow is still a possibility—the predicted rainfall is down to merely an inch, but with Fourth of July festivities scheduled for all over the region, it’s probably not the best day to go wandering around the city. Guess I’ll just have to fake it for now. Maybe I’ll go next weekend.

I wrote another 1400 words of a short story yesterday. Hoping to get the first draft finished by tomorrow. Since it is an alternate history, I’ve had to do a lot of historical research to get some verisimilitude, so my first task yesterday was to pull that all apart and arrange it in an order I could use, which I’d been procrastinating over. Finally got that done and then revised what I’d written to date and added to the end. I think I see where I’m going now more clearly. I have a feeling, though, that once I get a solid first draft that I’m going to rip the whole thing apart and approach the story differently. We’ll see.
