It was great seeing Nathan Fillion on Lost last night, playing Kate’s former husband in a flashback. Better known, perhaps, as Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly. He had a couple of pure Firefly moments in the episode—one when he was in bed with Kate/Monica when he made a typically droll Mal observation, and another later when his wife drugged him a la Saffron.
The Firefly gang have been making the rounds lately. Jayne is going to be on the Lost replacement Daybreak. Inara was on How I Met Your Mother this week. River was on a couple of episodes of The Unit. Book was on The Shark. Kaylee is on some SciFi network show. Zoe is on that hostage drama. They’re everywhere!
It’s still hard to figure out what’s really going on with the Others in Lost. Juliet and Ben: allies or antagonists? Is Ben Alex’s father, as they so obviously want us to believe after last night? The thirteen week hiatus is going to be tough, but I can’t wait for the show to return. Many of the show’s fans have fallen by the wayside, but I’m along for the ride.
I’d like to send John Grisham fan mail. Dear Mr. Grisham. Thank you for helping propel the Webb campaign onto the national stage. I couldn’t be more delighted with the apparent Senate outcome if I could have voted myself. Two years from now I may regret it, who knows? But I’m looking forward to some exciting times ahead.
Another 1300-word morning on the NaNoWriMo novel. I’m up over 9000 words for the month-to-date. Way behind NaNoWriMo pace, but doing pretty well with the story, so I can’t complain.
I received my first accounting statement from the Dutch publisher of The Road to the Dark Tower last night. I’ve already earned out 80% of my advance with them. They’ve sold approximately 2000 copies of the book, which I think is pretty good considering the relatively small target audience: fans of the Dark Tower series who prefer to read in Dutch.
Tonight’s our last night of Citizens’ Police Academy. The CSI folks will be talking to us. Next week is graduation. Houston’s Chief of Police will be in attendance. It’s been a fun experience and, as a member of the alumni, I can go to any of the new classes they offer next spring. In one of them, they’re bringing in a driving simulator so people can get behind the wheel and safely engage in a high-speed chase. Wouldn’t mind going to the shooting range again, either.
