It’s that time of year…

…when the year seems almost over, but there’s so much to get through before we reach the end.

By this time next week I will have finalized an essay for Storytellers Unplugged (it will go up on Sunday), finished a column for Cemetery Dance (due on the 20th) as well as a long review (ditto) and—I hope—put the finishing touches on the first draft of a novel. The week after that I will be on vacation, so I hope to get caught up on some reading, cook some nice meals, and maybe get started on a short story or two. I also need to take a close look at my submission tracker to remind myself what stories are lingering in purgatory and maybe get a couple of them back into circulation.

And then there were five. Things are getting down to the wire on Survivor. Just one episode left to go. I wasn’t sure which way Ozzy was going to go when the vote came around. Despite the fact that Yul has the immunity idol, I think Ozzy is the person to beat. If he keeps winning immunity and ends up in the final two against Yul, I suspect the jury will vote for him, simply because he’s done a good job of not pissing anyone off. Yul’s been nice and all, but he’s put a big target on his back by brandishing the idol metaphorically and acting like Marlon Brando in The Godfather, granting reprieves and dictating the flow of events, so I think the jury would opt in favor of Ozzy given the choice.
