What would you expect to find at www.vampire.com?
My wife arrived home the other night with two bottles of vampire wine. Romanian, of course. From Transylvania, even. Nice, classy bottles, with only a few pithy quotes on the back label (blood of the vine, for example). According to their website, they also produce a soft drink called Dracola (har har har). We got a kick out of it. The wine was not bad for an $8 import. Nothing to phone home about, but not dreadful. Would be great for a Halloween party, that’s for sure.
Last night was the season finale of The Dead Zone. I’m really glad to see that the major flaw I kept going on and on about during this season (and, no, Yvonne, I don’t mean the cute new sheriff!) was revealed for what it was—subterfuge. I found it a tad farfetched that Walt anticipated his fate to the extent that he left the message for Johnny the way he did, but otherwise a good way to wrap things up until the next season, whenever that happens to be.
The Big Brother recap show revealed little new last night. It was probably a lot more easy to film with two contestants “on the same side” than if it had been two people who still had to do battle with each other in front of the jurors. I liked it when Dick went on about how he was going to Sweden and on an African safari and Dani asked him how he was going to do that on just $50,000 (i.e. second place winnings).
I think I might give K-ville a try tonight. It’s the new crime show set in post-K New Orleans. I’ll give it one shot, because I didn’t really plan to take on another new series this fall, but if it works out, I might squeeze it in. I’m also going to give the new Kelsey Grammar/Patricia Heaton comedy a shot on Wednesday. Can’t remember what it’s called and I’d never heard of it before I saw a capsule preview in the weekend paper.
I wrote 1/3 of a new short story this morning. How do I know it was 1/3? Well, the maximum word count for the Apex Digest short story contest is 2500 words, and I put down 830 of them. I had the inspiration for the story the moment I saw the guidelines, though I have absolutely no idea where the idea sprang from. I hope it works out the way I want it to. I’m the supporting champ and I’d hate to go down in flames.
