…and taking down names

I received a copy of a recent book called Interred With Their Bones by Jennifer Lee Carrell from the publisher last night, though I’ll probably take to calling it The Shakespeare Code. “On the eve of the Globe’s production of Hamlet, Shakespeare scholar and theater director Kate Stanley’s eccentric mentor Rosalind Howard gives her a mysterious box, claiming to have made a groundbreaking discovery. But before she can reveal it to Kate, the Globe burns to the ground and Roz is found dead . . . murdered precisely in the manner of Hamlet’s father. Inside the box Kate finds the first piece in a Shakespearean puzzle, setting her on a deadly, high-stakes treasure hunt.” I’m really looking forward to tearing into this one. I’m in the mood for a good adventure of this type.

The Unit was good last night. Nice to see the guys back in control of things again, kicking ass and no longer on the run. Poor old Mack had a hard go of it, but I think Tiffy was the one who took the worst beating when he snubbed her at the end of the episode. Glad that Ryan’s wife got a bit of a spanking out of it—she’s one of the characters you love to hate. I watched NCIS, too, which was an unremarkable but worthwhile episode, and taped three other shows to watch at a later date: House, Boston Legal and L&O: SVU, which I always want to write as SUV.

I got another story back last night, this time with a request to rewrite the ending. I’m going to give this one some serious thought, because I’ve always thought my ending was telegraphed way too soon and the editor had some ideas worth considering. I’ve got to re-tackle my Apex Halloween contest story first, though, and also get to the end of the other story I’m revising. At the same time, I’m gathering research materials for the new novel I’m considering for NaNoWriMo.
