Lunch at the Gotham Cafe…Stephen King calling

As you may know, I co-wrote an adaptation of the Stephen King story Lunch at the Gotham Cafe for some colleagues out in L.A. who acquired the rights as part of King’s Dollar Baby program. The resulting films can only be screened at film festivals. Stephen King’s Gotham Cafe, as King allowed the producers to name it, filmed last fall and is now in post production, including ADR.

The film’s driving force, Julie Sands, was looking for someone to record an audio cameo for the part of Mr. Ring, the main character’s lawyer. Ring calls Steve up to dissuade him from attending the lunch because the lawyer can’t attend.

We already have cameos from such luminaries as director Mick Garris and Apple computer’s Steve Wozniak. Who would do Mr. Ring? Julie decided to ask Stephen King if he would do it. Much to our delight, he agreed, and recorded the phone-in cameo this morning. This is the first time he’s ever gotten personally involved in one of these dollar baby adaptations.

Very cool.
