Best of…

I’ve known this for a couple of weeks, but didn’t want to say anything until the table of contents was officially released. My story “One of Those Weeks” was selected for the new Best of Borderlands 1-5, a trade paperback that will be out in a couple of months.

I don’t know if I can successfully convey how thrilled I’ve been at some of the wonderful opportunities that have come my way since I started writing seriously five years ago. There are times when I can’t believe this is all happening to me. If you’d’ve asked me in 2001 what the chances were that I’d have a story in an anthology with people like Bentley Little, Poppy Z. Brite, Thomas Tessier, Peter Straub, Stephen King, Joe R. Lansdale, Ramsey Campbell, John Farris, many of whom I’ve been reading for years and years and years (some of them just years, a few years and years!) and a host of others who I’ve gotten to know through their works and in person at various cons, I would have said: practically zero (I always leave myself a little wiggle room!).

I’m still working diligently on Missing Persons. My agent has been over the first 60 pages and we think those are in near-final state, so now I’m waiting for his feedback on the next block of pages. This is an amazing process. I’ve never done more changing, rearranging, shifting and modifying to a work before in my life. I feel extremely fortunate to have someone so willing to invest time in my work to get it ready for publication.

What a trip!
