I know it’s NaNoWriMo and not “nano” WriMo but I like the duality—a very short time to write a novel, a month. National Novel Writing Month is November, a time during which people are challenged to churn out 50,000 words of first draft quality material. I’m toying with the idea of giving it a shot this year. I have a novel sketched out in my mind and I think I could probably handle 1666 words a day, every day, for a month. It would be interesting to see how quickly I could get that much work done, in case I’m ever put in the position of having to deliver a manuscript in short order.
I’ll only tackle this, though, if I can get this round of Missing Persons revisions finished. That comes first. No distractions, I promise myself. I’m getting close to the end, only 80 pages left to go, but I could get feedback on the first 26 chapters from my agent any time that could set me back a little in the manuscript to address any of his suggested changes.
And then, of course, there’s the world series. For the first time in my lifetime—in anyone’s, in fact—there will be World Series games played in Texas. The Rangers have never gotten there, and the Astros did it for the first time this year. It’s funny—I stopped watching game five partway through because I could tell the Astros weren’t going to win. They were simply lackluster. Although it was only a one-run game at that point, and the Astros ultimately took a strong lead, I could see the writing on the wall. Conversely, last night I could see the fire within them, and I never had any doubt that they’d win.
Here is a hilarious Lost Parody set to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody, complete with accordion bridge.
