One down, 51 to go

The first week of 2006 is history. Where does the time go?

A Maine newspaper wrote a feature on my buddy Glenn Chadbourne, the artist who illustrated The Road to the Dark Tower and The Illustrated Stephen King Trivia Book. His current project is The Secretary of Dreams, an illustrated short story collection. Volume 1 was announced recently and he’s working on Volume 2. He’s a great guy and this article does him justice, especially the “gigolo” quote.

I’ve been working on my CD #55 column this week; the deadline is tomorrow. Once I get that put to bed, I’ll be returning my attention to Missing Persons. I hope to do another round of revisions in the next six to eight weeks, concentrating primarily on the last third of the book. Then it’s off to market, I hope!

I’m having a blast with Don Quixote—it’s a little like a Monty Python sketch. The title character and his sidekick Sancho Panza get their butts whipped on a regular basis. In the scene I just finished, even Quixote’s horse gets beat up. I’ll bet if it were possible to read the book in context, it would be a scream. Here’s an interesting bit of trivia: Cervantes and Shakespeare were contemporaries. Harold Bloom believes that Shakespeare was probably aware of Cervantes’ work, but that the Spanish writer probably didn’t read or see any Shakespeare in his lifetime.
