Questions answered, asked

Did some more work on my new story this morning. It seems to be moving along. When I finished, I had a pretty good idea of where it was going next. In fact, I didn’t really want to stop when I did, but I ran out of time. I read through the entire nine pages beginning to end as I got started and made some editing changes. A scene that I originally wrote as recollection I revamped to relate in real time for better effect.

Last night was lost to LOST, of course. I was thrilled by the season finale. When Desmond figured out why the plane crashed, I heard myself saying, “Oh my God!” Some of the big pieces were finally starting to fall into place. I began to believe that the writers might come up with plausible explanations. Suffice to say I found the whole episode satisfying—and now we have to wait until the fall to continue. Ah, me. The episode raised enough new questions to keep us going through the summer, though. What was the deal with the four-toed statue remnant?

I meant to switch over to catch the big moment on American Idol, but I was so swept away by LOST that I forgot. Happy that Taylor won, though I wonder if he’ll succeed as a recording artist since so much of the fascination comes from his appearance and quirky behavior.

I’m about to begin the final volume of the Blackwater series. Then I’ll have to decide what to read next. I have Peter Carey’s Thief on the stack. I enjoyed his most recent novel, until it ended in an unresolved bit of existential mist, but I’m willing to give him another shot.
