I sent the synopsis back to my agent on Saturday and have been working fervently on the new short story since then. Some days I get more done than others—yesterday wasn’t terribly productive. But I worked out the end of the story in my waking mind this morning and dashed upstairs before breakfast to jot notes, and now I know where it’s headed. It’ll probably end up somewhere in the vicinity of 6000 words in first draft, but I’m sure I’ll have it trimmed back to 5000 before I submit it anywhere.
