At least I didn’t have to mow the lawn

A soggy weekend. I watered the lawn last Tuesday, because it and the plants were looking peakéd. Since Friday, we’ve had heavy rainstorms every day, with no end in sight. Parts of Houston received 10.5″ this morning alone. . This picture (from the Chronicle) is not far from one of our interstates near the downtown airport. Hospitals, airports and other institutions delayed or canceled services today because staff couldn’t get to work due to local flooding. Such is life in the Bayou City. Fortunately, these bayous are fairly efficient at draining the water away, assuming the rain lets up, which it might. In a few days. What’s amazing is that after all this, we’re still below average rainfall for both the month and the year.

Tonight is game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoff finals. Go Edmonton!

I received Arc of Infinity today and watched the first two installments during lunch break. Other than the rather fortuitous coincidence that it’s Tegan’s cousin who meets up with the green beastie in the bowels of Amsterdam, it’s a very good episode so far. The Time Lords are in serious need of fashion consultants, though.

Congratulations to the Stoker award winners, announced in New Jersey Saturday evening at what—from all accounts—was a very successful HWA weekend. Sorry I couldn’t be there. Maybe next year.
