So, eyes glued to the TV last night, watching…Law & Order reruns. After NCIS, that is. I just couldn’t bring myself to watch. There was absolutely nothing I wanted to hear during that speech except “I quit” (riffing on an editorial cartoon I saw yesterday where Bush asked his speechwriter for a line that would guarantee a standing ovation).
I’ve been listening to Nik Kershaw’s new album lately. It was only today that I actually paid attention to the lyrics of the song Loud, Confident & Wrong to realize what he was singing about. So I’ve listened to it about 10 times since then.
I’m nearly 4000 words into the new short story I’m working on, and getting very near to the end of a tapered first draft. By that I mean the first 2000-2500 words have been revised a lot and everything after that has been revised less and less because the content is more recent. I’m hoping to get this draft done tomorrow morning, or perhaps even tonight if I decide to tinker while I watch the NHL All Star Game.
I also composed the opening paragraph to the story I’m going to write for blind submission to the upcoming MWA anthology. Composed it mentally while getting out of the shower and grabbed a scrap of paper to write it down. It probably won’t survive in that form, but it sets the story question and the protagonist all in a few words.
Another rainy day today. We’re off to a good start for the year—more than an inch over average and over double the amount we had this time last year. It’s on the cool side, 46°, which is about 15° below normal, but at least it isn’t hovering near the freezing mark like it was this time last week.
Don’t forget to check out the eBay auctions I mentioned last time. Minimum bids are in for a few items, but a few others are currently bid-free and a steal at the opening prices.
