Thunder just crashed outside my office window. We’re about to be in the midst of our third fierce rainstorm of the week. The one on Sunday had hailstones that punctured things. The heavy wind last night bent over the palm trees like a hurricane does. We’ve already exceeded the average monthly rainfall for March and another heavy storm is rolling in.
Caught up with 24 last night. Jean Smart was excellent, and her coup de grace was one of those moments I saw coming early on, then dismissed so that even though I anticipated it at one point it took me by surprise. Just once, though, I’d like to watch someone come apart mentally on film and not be cued by crazy-music.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent had another one of those surprising moments in the denouement. In the past few months I’ve become a big fan of Vincent D’Onofrio’s depiction of Goren and I’ve been trying to catch up on all the previous episodes on TNT and Bravo and wherever else they air. He is so intense but accessible. He looks like someone who is completely aware of himself but could come apart at the seams at any moment.
Hunter Goatley reminded me in a post at Shocklines about the King Biscuit concerts that are available in streaming audio at Wolfgang’s Vault, so I’ve be treating myself to some classic shows at work today. I listend to a 1983 Chris de Burgh concert recorded in Montreal in 1983 this morning. I’m fairly sure I saw him in Halifax on that same tour. Right now I’m listening to an ELP concert from their Works tour in 1977. I think I’m having flashbacks.
