Timing is everything?

I interviewed Tabitha King last year before the release of her collaboration with Michael McDowell, a southern gothic novel called Candles Burning. When the original venue for my interview went belly up, I decided to query some other markets. I found Pensacola Magazine and decided—perfect! The second half of Candles Burning is set in Pensacola. I queried—the editor bought.

However, she slated it for the April 2007 issue, many months hence. I shrugged. Okay, better than nothing. As it turns out, the paperback version of the book comes out in early May, so the timing isn’t all that bad. I just saw the front cover posted on their website, reproduced here. It’s the “Annual Women’s Edition” and my interview (Tabitha King Collaborates With the Dead) gets prominent billing. I haven’t seen the magazine yet, not even a proof of the interview, so I’m hoping it turned out okay.

I started John Grisham’s The Innocent Man last night. Following a habit I’ve picked up lately, I didn’t read the dust jacket copy. In the early going, I think that was helpful, as it wasn’t immediately obvious who the title refers to. I remember reading some disgruntled commentary in passing a while back about Grisham’s bias in the book, but I haven’t investigated that yet, and won’t until I’m done reading it. So far, so good. Just the right amount of detail to set the scene.

Because a new plague of spammers are hitting YaBB bulletin boards from .info domains, I’ve temporarily disabled user registration on my message board. These spammers are using real people (drones, I guess) to complete the multi-part registration process (apply to be a member, enter the skewed text to foil bots, respond to the validation e-mail) and then unleashing a posting bot on the boards. I’ve had to delete 10-15 spam messages several times a day for the past several days. Apparently there’s a board mod that will let me ban users with e-mail addresses from a specific domain, but I haven’t had time to apply it yet. I really don’t know what these people hope to accomplish. Do they really think people coming to my message board are really going to be interested in !#$!@&$! and !#&!$%$ videos? Hmmmm…maybe that’s why my traffic’s been up lately.

Haven’t had a chance to watch Survivor yet, but I liked the little bit of cleverness I read about in an episode preview relating to the hidden immunity idol. A fake? Clev-er!
