I finished the first draft of my new story this morning, with a final word count of 8200. Checked the guidelines: 3500-7000. A little ironic, since that means that I have to delete at least the same number of words I wrote this morning, perhaps more. I’m going to have to be absolutely ruthless in editing this story. Ideally I’d like to get it down to about 6000-6500 words, but that means nuking over a quarter of what I’ve written. That’s going to hurt, big time.
I also have yet to come up with a definitive title for the thing yet. I thought I had a good idea, but when I looked up the term for what I was considering, it sucked as a title. I think I have a possibility, but I have to try it out for a while. Titles usually click in my mind when they’re prefect.
LOST was pretty darned good last night. Nice to see Locke and Sawyer interact. My favorite moments were the quasi-humorous ones—Sawyer surprising Hurley and Jin, Locke’s dry comment about Sawyer’s lack of shoes, and Locke and Rousseau’s exchange in the Black Rock. One’s there to get dynamite and the other has a prisoner in the brig, and yet neither got involved in the other’s stuff. Just passing through to get some explosives. Don’t mind me. Looking forward to the final episodes. I’m going to be in Japan when the season finale airs, so I’m going to have to do my best to make sure nothing gets spoiled for me before I get a chance to watch it upon my return.
