Cleaning up my plate

We had our Thanksgiving meal last night. Pretty good, if I do say so myself. We didn’t overeat, but it seems that even a small turkey dinner fills me up. Tonight: leftovers! I might make a soup, too. I love turkey soup.

This morning, I finished revisions for a short story that dates back to 2002. I wrote it for a themed antho that it didn’t make and didn’t do much with it until recently. I edited it and submitted to a relatively new market and received back some positive comments and a request to reconsider the ending. The 1200-word story ended up coming in at 1600 words after revision. I returned it to the market this morning, so we’ll see if we have a meeting of the minds on it.

NCIS was fun last night, though I think they’ve used the culprit-in-Abby’s-lab plot before. The tension between Gibbs’s various exes and currents drove the episode to the extent that I almost lost track of what the real crime was, but that’s okay. The Unit wasn’t bad, either, though I’m not a big fan of plots where someone comes up with an idea at the 12th hour that he could have had two hours earlier and averted the big crisis at the end, as with Bob’s sudden rhetorical musing about what happens when a plane goes into a stall. I still have three shows from last night on tape to view at a later date.

I bought a few DVDs this past week as research for the novel I plan to start for NaNoWriMo and plan to immerse myself into that world for the next several weeks. I’ve also downloaded a ton of material from the internet, including some YouTube videos. Finding time to go through all this is the problem (I know, I could watch less TV, but…). I plan to spend this weekend on a research binge, now that my plate is more or less clean of short-term projects.
