I’m on a Queen kick this week, listening to some of the older albums I haven’t heard in years. Decades, perhaps. Was there ever a better voice in rock than Freddy Mercury? I don’t think so. Man, some of their songs—even the non-hits—are awesome. How about “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon”? A short ditty, but it’s so much fun to listen to.
I finally figured out what Pushing Daisies reminds me of: A Roald Dahl movie, like James and the Giant Peach or Matilda. The charm is wearing off fast, though. I’m reaching for the insulin, and I’m not even diabetic. I wish they’d lose the banal voice over—it’s served its purpose, but now it’s just being used for lazy storytelling. Last night, it was used to sum up in 20 seconds the entire reason why the bad guy did what he did. Might as well have had the actor hold the heroes at gunpoint and deliver a “since I’m going to kill you” speech.
House was interesting this week, with its focus on life-after-death and doing the wrong things for the right reasons. I like the non-doctor intern, and hope he sticks around even if he gets fired. I only watched Criminal Minds with one eye, since that was all the plot merited. Private Practice, on the other hand, was really good. Better than an average Grey’s Anatomy episode, I’d say. Boston Legal was just fun. A little preachy, but then again isn’t it always and I usually agree with Alan’s rants so I don’t mind ’em.
Cool weather has arrived in southeast Texas. Though it’s going up to the 80s today, it was only in the 60s when I got up this morning. I had a leisurely breakfast while reading the newspaper al fresco at the local bagel shop.
