A good listener

Big Bang Theory was funny last night. I mean, what’s funnier that giving a bunch of geeks the opportunity to dress up for Hallowe’en? For them, it’s second nature. The bit with Leonard and Penny was sweet, but the best part was Koothrappali’s conquest at the end. “You’re such a good listener!”

I received two rejections yesterday, one from Strange Horizons and one from an anthology called Medium for Murder. I knew the second one was a bit of a stretch since it took a leap of logic to fit my story into the theme, but I couldn’t figure out what else to do with the story, so I gave it a shot. There aren’t many markets for 5000-word crime tales. I think it will stay in the drawer for a while until something promising comes along. The other story has more potential, I think, so I’ll look for another market for it and get it back into circulation.

I did a full edit of the story I’m revamping this morning. Trimmed about a hundred words in the process, getting it down to a trim 10 pages/3300 words. I have a market in mind for it—I’m just waiting to hear back from my review readers to see if there are any outstanding issues with it. I think it is much more marketable in this form than the way I thought of it for over half a decade.

I have to go off to Wal-Mart today—the new Eagles album comes out and it’s only available at Wal-Mart for some exclusive period of time. Tomorrow I will be spending the workday at a continuous improvement seminar, which will be an interesting change of pace.

Only two more days until NaNoWriMo begins. I have serious doubts that I’ll make 50,000 words in 30 days, but I’m going to see how much of the new novel I can get done. I hope at least to have something substantial to show to my agent at the end of the month.
