Rainy days

I finished watching The Da Vinci Code last night. Terribly lackluster ending. I think this could have been a much different film with another male lead. Ben Affleck, maybe. I like Hanks, but not in this film.

The other great mystery is: where is The Solomon Key, Dan Brown’s rumored next novel? From everything I’ve been able to track down, he still hasn’t delivered any part of the manuscript to his publisher. I wonder if he’s blocked or gun-shy from all the lawsuits he’s had to fight over DVC, or if he’s just enjoying life as a multimillionaire too much to write. People have written books about the book already—isn’t that weird? I know Brown has a lot of detractors, but I’ll buy the book the minute it comes out, and I’ll probably enjoy it. There are some authors who I think are pedestrian craftsman but excellent storytellers. Them I will forgive a multitude of sins and just get swept away by the plot.

Sometimes I think there’s as much work involved in finding an artificial tree in the attic, lugging all the bits and pieces out and carting them downstairs and assembling it as there is in going out in the woods and chopping one down.

It’s been dark and rainy for the past couple of days. Heavy rain this morning. We’ve had nearly 20 inches more than the average rainfall this year. We’re heading back down to 40° overnight temps, and maybe even to the 30s by the weekend. It’s 75° right now, but we’ll only reach the 50s and 60s for the rest of the week. Yesterday we set record high maximum and minimum temperatures—it only went down to 72 overnight.

I’m still editing the story in progress. I did a complete readthrough during my lunch break yesterday and marked up the manuscript, then keyed in my changes this morning. It’s now down to just under 3000 words, and getting close to being done. I’m still contemplating tackling a novel, I’m just not sure when I’m going to start. I’m thinking I should wait until after the holidays so I will get off to a good start on a regular schedule, and the next few weeks are going to be anything but regular.
