Whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on

AP posted a video clip from the filming of Judge Judy that was taken during the recent L.A. earthquake. The judge made a hasty retreat off the set, but everyone else pretty much stood around and gawked. Last night on Big Brother they showed the footage taken in the house during the quake, too. Jerry thought a truck had run into the house! What I found interesting was how, long after the visible shaking ended, Memphis was still able to feel motion on the ground.

Speaking of BB10—I can’t believe they evicted Angie when they could have gotten rid of the strongest physical threat in the house. Dumb asses! I bet they’ll rue the choice once they see how he hangs on during the current HoH competition, where physical endurance will probably hand him the win, unless he does something stupid.

I watched two more episodes of Mad Men last night. The cast is mostly unknown to me. The only actors I recognize are the actress who played Saffron on a couple of episodes of Firefly, the woman who was Amber (aka cut-throat bitch) on House, M.D. and the guy who played Mac on Magnum, P.I.. So, my suspicion is that Don paid off the elevator guy so he could punish his boss for making a move on his wife. The whole oysters & martinis plus cheesecake followed by a twenty-something floor ascent was the payoff. The episode where the staff leaves work early in the afternoon to go to a local bar to dance and hang out had the second scene in which a character is doing something while visibly reeling from something else, and both have been fantastically played. And I loved the moment when Don was about to leave the hippie pad, only to be warned that they couldn’t go because the police were out in the hall arresting a violent neighbor. “You can’t leave,” Don said. “I can.”

I submitted a story to a brand new market that only started accepting submissions today, and worked more on the recent crime story. I still haven’t decided what to send to Ellen Datlow for the critique I won through the KGB lottery. I have a couple of ideas, but may wait a week or so to send her something. This is a rare opportunity and I want to make sure I give it my best.

Sure wish it would rain.
