Packaging

Packaging In today’s Storyteller’s Unplugged essay, I write about a little-known component of the publishing world: book packagers or book producers. I am currently working with one on a project that hasn’t been announced widely yet and I share my thoughts on the experience thus far.

This week’s episode of The Unit felt like a David Mamet play with action wrapped around it. The set piece between Colonel Tom Ryan and his estranged (maybe not so much anymore?) wife had all the hallmarks of a Mamet play, with existential or nihilistic dialog and characters who respond to questions with the same question but in a different tone.

House was fairly existential, too, this week, with the team of doctors trying to find out why a disgraced priest was suffering from religious visions. The showdown against Foreman and 13 was interesting, too, especially with the way it was resolved. Those people mess with each other’s heads so much that it would drive any sane person around the bend.

I’m looking forward to a big showdown between Chloe and Jeneane Garofolo’s character on 24. Agent Gold almost got caught spying on Chloe and almost screwed up their tracking system at the same time. There’s going to be hell to pay when Chloe figures out whodunit.

I’m back at work today. Not 100% recovered, but getting there. Last night was the first night I didn’t have the sweats, and my temperature was below 98° when I got up this morning. I’ve been able to scale back on the medications and balms that ease the symptoms.
