Welcome to 1973

1973 The BBC has released a trailer for The Planet of the Dead, the Doctor Who Easter special. Unfortunately, the video on their website seems to be out of order. Fortunately, it’s up on YouTube. Whatever would we do without YouTube? Reminds me of The Langoliers, except on a doubledecker.

The last ten minutes of the series finale of Life on Mars was a trainwreck. Horrible on every count, from concept to execution. I am choosing to remember that the series ended when Sam and Annie kissed and Annie said, “Welcome to 1973.” That would have been okay with me. The British got it right and I can’t imagine why the American writers decided to go off the deep end so badly. It’s a “gene hunt.” Give me a break.

Another necessary episode of Lost this week. It told us a number of things that everyone had already guessed but needed confirmation. The nuts and bolts details did give us a lot of insight into Kate’s actions, things that even she didn’t realize at the time until they were explained to her. The on-island stuff was good enough if not earth-shattering. The best part was Hurley’s discussion of time travel with Miles, especially when 1) Miles handed over his gun and told Hurley to shoot him and 2) Hurley stumped Miles with his question about Sayid and Ben. Next week looks like it will be more eventful.

This morning I continued revising the short story I picked up again this week. I might have to put it down again if I don’t get it finished in the next few days as I have some late-month obligations that take precedence since this story isn’t due until later this year.
