Notorious

I’m revising an essay for a publication that requires MLA formatting, so I’m educating myself on all the myriad ways things get referenced. I found some good pages that had detailed examples that covered most of my situations. My favorite one is a magazine article that has been posted online, which gets dual referencing. Some of my online references no longer exist, but fortunately I printed them out at the time so I have the URL and date of access, even if the URL is no longer valid.

I spent the morning in the dentist’s office while a family member had wisdom teeth extracted. The procedure itself seemed to go very well. No we have to see how the recovery goes, with the promise of pain after the anaesthetic wears off and swelling in 2-3 days.

We watched Notorious last night on TMC. Started with the final fifteen minutes of Casablanca—I’m not sure if it was an Ingrid Bergman themed evening or Claude Rains. Bergman, when first seen in the Hitchcock movie, looks like she just got off the plain from Casablanca. Same hat, same pose. I love her performance when she’s drunk, the first time she meets Cary Grant’s Devlin. It’s a subtle performance that strikes all the right notes. Thought the stuff in the wine bottles is the MacGuffin, the cellar key is the most important prop in the film, kicked under Alicia’s dresser, the object of the long tracking shot over the banister, palmed off to Devlin, discovered missing by Claude Rains and later found to be replaced, thus giving away the plan. A cleverly plotted film.
